Welcome note from Hon. Francis GATARE, CEO, Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, Rwanda
On behalf of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, I would like to welcome you to the 2nd annual Africa Mining Forum (AMF).
The level of attendance and engagement of delegates last year in Kigali showed us that there is a need to scale up convening this forum and even extend it to the continental level, hence changing from East and Central Africa Mining Forum to Africa Mining Forum.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have leveraged to use modern technologies to convene online. But, every challenge comes with a silver lining. Let’s embrace this chance to connect with more companies and individuals at the significantly reduced cost and time associated with international travel. Last year’s edition has opened our eyes to the potential business partnerships we can realise in our countries and as the host we promise that this edition will be even more rewarding.
This 2nd edition of Africa Mining Forum is going to be a premium investment platform to showcase the business opportunities in the mining sector and also discuss ways to keep our heads up despite the effects of the pandemic across the whole value chain.
AMF-2020 will deliver 5 days of interactive and content-led activities, from 12 strategic Spotlight sessions, international CEOs One-on-One, Women in Mining, and a Ministerial Forum.
Like many other industries across the world, the mining industry has been affected by the unprecedented force of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rwanda’s mining sector has been resilient and thanks to the stringent safety measures, operators were quick to safeguard themselves against the virus – which has to date meant that we have not reported a single COVID-19 positive case from the sector.
It’s for this reason that I hope to welcome you to visit Rwanda whenever you are able, but especially look forward to see you in Kigali next year at the 3rd edition of Africa Mining Forum.
On behalf of everyone at the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, and organizing team of AMF-2020, I wish you a productive participation at this 5-day digital event.
